Sitting on the edge of Abbotsbury in Dorset, Gorwell Farm is a beautiful place to explore with plenty of walks in the surrounding area to choose from. Here are five of our favourite Dorset walks near Gorwell Farm:
The South West Coast Path
This 630-mile long-distance footpath starts at Minehead in Somerset and goes all the way to Poole Harbour in Dorset. The path offers some of the most stunning views of the Dorset coastline. You can walk as far as you like and explore the rocky cliffs, hidden coves, and sandy beaches along the way. Our favourite smaller walk (although you’ll still be racking up the mileage!) is Abbotsbury to Weymouth. It’s a wonderful 14 mile stretch that takes you across fields and through valley. Then along the coast, passing some wonderful sights along the way.
Hardy’s Monument
This circular walk takes you to the top of the hill where Hardy’s Monument stands. The monument was built in 1844 in memory of Vice-Admiral Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy, a close friend of the famous author Thomas Hardy. The walk offers amazing views over the surrounding countryside and is a great way to increase the heart rate and take in the fresh air.
The Powerstock Common Walk
Taking you through the Powerstock Common, a stunning area of heath and woodland. The walk passes through the pretty villages of Powerstock and Toller Porcorum and offers the chance to see a variety of wildlife and plants. This is a peaceful and serene walk that is perfect for those who want to get away from it all. As a result, you’ll enjoy the beauty of the hidden Dorset countryside.
The Bridport Heritage Trail
Enjoy a wander through the charming market town of Bridport and its surrounding countryside. The trail covers a distance of approximately 10 miles and takes in some of the town’s most historic buildings and landmarks. You’ll also get to explore the rolling hills and picturesque countryside of the area. Making this a great choice for anyone who loves to discover new places and learn about local history.
The Toller Porcorum Circular Walk
This is a peaceful walk through the village of Toller Porcorum and its landscape. The walk takes you through rolling hills, past streams and across meadows, offering plenty of opportunities to take in the breathtaking views and admire the local wildlife. This is a great choice for those looking for a shorter and more leisurely walk as it is suitable for all ages and abilities.
Above all, no matter which walk you choose, you’re sure to have a wonderful time exploring the beautiful Dorset countryside. So, lace up your walking boots, pack a picnic, and head out to discover the best that our wonderful area has to offer!
